“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.”

- CHARLES MINGUS

my journey continues…

Gianni Versace once said: “I like the body. I like to design everything to do with the body.”…well, I too am fascinated by the human body and I love clothing that compliments and enhances the human body! I also love footwear, bags, and gear! but only if it is built to last in quality AND style! please don’t ask me to design anything that doesn’t meet this criteria!

from early on in life, I’ve had a fascination with the way apparel is made with a particular passion for functional outdoor and athletic apparel… from the moment I was recognized in the 7th grade as the first ever male student to win the Home Economics award for the Holubar jacket I constructed from a kit to the many technical styles of jackets, pants, vests, shirts, shorts, baselayers, etc I’ve worked on since, I’m always looking to design things better… in style AND performance!…

after studying Industrial Design then Film and Photography at the Rhode Island School of Design, I worked behind the production scenes in NYC for a number of years before catching the bike racing bug…it wasn’t too long before I headed West to Boulder Colorado to combine my love of the outdoors with what I had decided I truly wanted to do in life: design stuff that I liked to wear and use for my athletic and outdoor pursuits…

as with writing, I believe it’s true that you design best that which you know and so it was with PEARL iZUMi that my career in product design really took off…and designed the apparel and gear I trained and raced in every day…

“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”

- STEVE JOBS

for 8 plus years, I honed my craft designing apparel accessories and gear at PEARL iZUMi for world class cyclists, runners, and tri-athletes then on to working alongside the apparel team at Salomon during the launch of their first snowsports collection in 2000/01…and finally breaking out on my own as a free-lance, independent design contractor for brands such as FOX Racing, Spyder, patagonia, Marmot, Cloudveil and others…

eventually the lure of coming to work with the number one brand in sports apparel and footwear proved too good to turn down and I left my beloved Boulder for Portland and Beaverton in Dec 2004 to join Nike’s ACG (All Conditions Gear) apparel team…as Senior Designer across technical outerwear, mid layers, base layers, sportswear, womens and boys- Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer collections…during this time, ACG was very much the R&D nerve center for Nike’s Considered and technical outerwear apparel efforts and informed much of what we have since seen from the larger Performance and Sportswear categories…after some 10 seasons of ACG design, I was asked to lead the Nike (swoosh branded) Outerwear design effort…

for the past several years, my focus shifted to Design Management- first with the Action Sports apparel and footwear design teams then with the Global Football (aka Soccer) apparel footwear and equipment design teams based at World HQ and European HQ – a truly Global product design and creation effort for one of Nike’s largest and globally important categories…working alongside the Creative Director and Design Directors in managing the requirements and enabling the demands of a nearly 50 member design team in the US and the Netherlands…

in August 2013, I left Nike to once again pursue my true passion: designing and design directing apparel and softgoods product creation…and am looking forward to working with talented designers developers and product creation teams on new and innovative product!…

let’s get to work!
